1. Macro News

Tradfi

Key themes are a stable but moderating labor market, diverging views on US fiscal health between ratings agencies and policymakers, and continued weakness in manufacturing. The downgrade's limited market impact suggests investors are less concerned about US creditworthiness.

Fitch Ratings downgraded the US sovereign credit rating from AAA to AA+ in August 2023, citing concerns about long-term fiscal deterioration and rising debt levels. This marks the first time the US has been downgraded from AAA.
The Treasury Secretary disagreed with the downgrade, arguing it was based on outdated projections and arbitrary. The downgrade had little immediate impact on US Treasury yields or the dollar.
Job openings declined slightly in June 2023 to 9.58 million but remain elevated historically. Layoffs also edged lower, suggesting ongoing labor market stability amid a gradual slowdown in demand.
The ISM Manufacturing Index remained in contraction territory in July 2023 at 46.4, reflecting ongoing challenges in the manufacturing sector.

2. Trending Narratives

Defi

July saw important regulatory developments, continued growth in decentralized finance, resilience among major cryptocurrencies, and cautious optimism about the future of the crypto space.

Bitcoin traded in a narrow range for much of July, with investors awaiting potential Bitcoin ETF approvals. Progress was made on ETF approvals, with Coinbase chosen as the surveillance sharing entity.
Major cryptocurrencies remained largely unaffected by traditional markets and the economy, showcasing their independence.
Ripple's legal victory against the SEC established an important precedent for crypto projects in legal disputes with the SEC. This challenged the SEC's broad authority over crypto tokens.
The DeFi 1.0 narrative saw a revival, with early DeFi projects releasing new offerings and features. This renewed investor enthusiasm and activity.

Token + Narrative Watchlist 📝

$RLB: I see poloniex has listed it, founder also said “next week will be electric”. I know their long awaited metrics dashboard is launching soon but maybe more exchange listings

$SOL: I feel there is a bit of a discrepancy between metrics and price at the moment. Simply looking for a catch up play. “Solana Summer” lol $26 level continues to be the level

$UNIBOT: is that lull phase, that RLB just went through, no reason this can’t take out the highs again

$FXS: In the Curve risk basket, but I see they’ve a proposal to implement RWA’s via USDC + T bills etc - also Frax v3 + frxETH V2 coming

$GMX: GMX v2 is now live, kind of went under the radar. Waiting to see if metrics start ticking up, would them Expect price to follow

$WLD: Project and scammyness aside, keep trading the manipulated “range”. Low $2’s up to $2.5-2.8 due to MM strike price formula.

$CRV: FUD looks mostly over, however upside remains capped - I see it heading 0.7’s, MAX $0.8, as that is where OTC term allows them to offload on open market. As long as Michael keeps things in tact: “panic” dips are for laddering in for scalps

$OP: some big shills lately, rightly so I suppose. OP stack tech is being used, BASE public launch next week, EIP4844 Q4 - already becoming a crowded trade so be careful, but upside very possible - also other L2’s such as $ARB

$DOGE: always have it hanging around, Elon has upped his teasing, which means 8-10% quick moves probabilities has increased

$CFX, $ACH: few exchange licenses handed out in HK, also upbit launched $SOL staking. Idk, there is activity. Just watching this ‘China narrative’ as when it runs, runs hard

$DYDX: v4 coming, sequencers fees being shared with validators. Don’t forget that massive unlock that was delayed in December. You all know what happened pre that last unlock. Be early.

$STG, $RDNT: layerzero getting closer, that is all :)

$UNI: up only, dip buying potential
